I took my degree in English Studies at the University of Murcia, where I finished my Ph.D. in 1990. Later I spent one year (1992) as Research Fellow at Manchester University, doing postdoctoral research. I has been teaching at the University of Murcia since 1986: as Lecturer (1986-1994), Associate Professor (1994-2007) and Full Professor (since december 2007). I have also been visiting scholar at Sevilla, Vigo, Leon, Oviedo, Chester and Essex. My research and teaching interests have concentrated in the fields of Medieval English Literature, Old English and the History of English; but, I have also taught courses on English and Spanish as Foreign Languages, Varieties of English, Translation (English-Spanish), as well as postgraduate seminars on research methods in historical linguistics and sociolinguistics. I have published mainly in two fields: Old English literature, where the book Crítica literaria y poesía elegíaca anglosajona (1994) should be highlighted, and the History of the English Language, mainly lexicology and historical sociolinguistics.

I have also published articles related to these fields in Atlantis, Selim, Studia Anglica Posnaniensia, Neuphilologische Mitteilungen and Neophilologus, as well as book-chapters in volumes published by Brepols, Rodopi, The Literary Enciclopedia Company, among others.

I am in the advisory board of some national and internactional journals, such as Cuadernos de Filología Inglesa, Selim, IJES and Atlántis. I have been Secretary (1991) and Head (1997-1999, 2008-2010) of the English Department at the University of Murcia and have coordinated the Ph.D. program on English Linguistics at the same Department (1997-1999, 2001-2007). I am Chair of the Spanish Society for Medieval Language and Literature SELIM (since 2008) after being Executive Director between 2002-2008.
